Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in my BrightBuilt Barn?
This is largely up to you. We know that there are a range of folks out there with different needs, budgets and comfort levels with taking on projects themselves so we have designed a process that lets you pick and choose what components you want included in your BBB. For those who want a finished product to arrive on their site, we offer a BBB with all interior and exterior finishes, appliances, fixtures and lighting included. On the other end of the spectrum, for the DIY (do-it-yourself) crowd, we offer an insulated weathertight frame and shell that you can then finish yourself. And for most of the rest of us, there are many options in between. You can download a spreadsheet in the Options Section, to explore the options and the resulting prices.

Can I make a change to the design of my BBB?
Sure, but it may become a custom project. The BrightBuilt Barn you are purchasing has been through a rigorous design process that takes into account structural, thermal and design considerations when determining the price. Once we getting into moving interior walls here and there or changing window and/or door sizes and locations, we are talking about a whole other ball of wax. While we understand that often a small (or large) tweak would make the BBB better suited to your specific needs, changes to the designs as presented are considered custom projects. If you find that a custom project would better suit your needs, we are happy to work with you to determine the next steps for your custom project.

How do I get permits to build a BBB on my site?
You and/or your GC will be responsible for obtaining permits for all work to be done at your BBB.

Will the BBB meet all the local building codes in my area?
The BBB is designed in full complianxe with the IRC (International Residential Code) and IBC (International Building Code) which most localities in the U.S. will accept. However, some localities may follow other building codes or may have additional code requirements and therefore you should contact your local code enforcement officer early in the project to see what codes are applicable.

The drawings and specifications you receive when you purchase a BBB will have code complianct information built in. In addition, we can provide you with a separate document highlighting the most commonly examined areas, such as stair dimensions.

How much will my BBB cost?
The price of your BBB will vary depending on the options you choose and your location. Download our interactive pricing spreadsheet in the Options section to play around with the possibilities.

Can I visit the factory while my BBB is being fabricated?
We can arrange for production visits at Bensonwood. Scheduling for the visit for a specific BBB might be challenging. The visits will have to be limited when appropriate personnel to conduct the tours is not available.

What is the timeframe for having my BBB delivered?
This depends strongly on the time of year and the production load of the Bensonwood facilities; currently the production time is booked through June of 2009. Straight production time for a BBB is approx. a week or less. Delivery depends on production availability and available installation crews

How long does it typically take to complete work on a BBB once it is delivered?
The goal for the base package is to be delivered and raised from the concrete foundation up within one week. Depending on the package chosen, the finish work can be accomplished in as little as 2-3 weeks

How will the BBB arrive?
The Bensonwood package of the BBB will be delivered on 2-3 tractor trailer trucks. All components are bundled and wrapped. Bundles are as long 20’, up to 8’ wide and up to 10’ tall. Bundles weigh as much as 8,000 lbs

What makes my BBB “green?”
The very nature of pre fabrication is a green process because material waste is greatly eliminated and quality control is increased in an efficient factory environment.

Can my BBB be LEED certified?
Yes. While many LEED credits are guaranteed by the nature of the project, many more will depend on project speficics such as location, site conditions and treatment and some interior owner decided options. Kaplan Thompson Architects would love to work with you to make your BBB LEED certified.

Will KTA make site visits?
Site visits by KTA can be arranged at additional cost to the client.
